Smaller lawns need lawn care too, just with some different tools.

Just because you have a smaller lawn does not mean the lawn does not require care. Small lawns have many of the same needs as larger lawns. However, the smaller lawns may require different tools.

For instance, smaller lawns may not require a fully installed sprinkler system. However, proper hydration is still a must for a healthy lawn.Portable above-ground lawn sprinklers that attach to a standard water hose might be perfect for such lawns. There are plenty of accessories available that can help lawn owners get the most out of these sprinklers, things like hose nozzles and pistols. Smaller water tools can also do a good job with water conservation. This can be especially true in lawns in or near urban areas or in areas where there are mandatory water restrictions.

It’s doubtful you need a riding mower for a smaller lawn. The best bet might be a push-type mulching mower. The mulching will eliminate some of the need for a lawn catcher on the mower. Smaller push mowers will also require less gas than a riding mower. Cordless electric mowers are also an option as are reel-action mower. If you choose a reel-action mower, make sure to choose a mower that allows you to adjust the mowing height 2 ½ to 3 inches. All the push-type mowers will also be easier to store if storage space is an issue.

Grass seed is another part of growing a full, lush lawn, even on a smaller scale. A larger push spreader is probably not necessary for smaller lawns. There are plenty of hand-held spreaders that can distribute grass seed and lawn food over smaller lawns. Some of the hand-held spreaders are battery-powered, making the seed distribution even easier.

Remember that all lawns, big or small, can benefit from occasional overseeding and use of topdressing.
