Finding dead grass can be very frustrating for lawn owners. Fortunately, getting rid of the dead grass and revitalizing the area can be fairly simple.
It’s also important to understand what can cause the damage to the grass.
We think of fertilizer as a friend to a healthy lawn and, for the most part, that’s true. However, overfertilization can kill grass. The trick to repairing areas of lawn damaged by excess fertilization is to let the damaged grass fully die. Once this happens, the grass can be cut and the remaining dead grass can be removed. Once that grass is removed, it’s time to scatter new seed. You can also apply a small amount of new soil before applying the appropriate amount of fertilizer. You should then immediately water the lawn.
Dogs are man’s best friend but they can be rough on lawns. Urine from a pet can cause damage to grass. If you notice a patch of grass being damaged by a pet’s urine, try and train the pet to do business elsewhere in the yard, limiting the damage. To repair the damaged grass, dig a hole about four inches deep. Then, fill it with fresh soil until it’s level with the soil surrounding the damaged area of grass. Then, sprinkle seed on the new soil and water the area.
Insects can cause big problems for lawns. It also takes the proper method to fix grass damaged by insects. If it’s complicated and you are not sure if you can fix the problem, don’t guess. Call a lawn professional. If you handle it yourself, you may decide to apply pesticide to the affected areas. Once you’ve gotten rid of those pesky insects, cut the grass and rake the affected area to remove the dead grass. Apply grass seed to the area, then add soil and water immediately.
