Maybe one of the most intimidating prospects for someone new to landscaping and gardening is setting up a watering system that will be able to provide needed water to plants around the house. Certainly there is a bit of preparation that goes into it, but in general it is not too difficult.
It is important to understand that there three different types of watering system types, all of which range in price and in difficulty installing and maintaining.
The three types of watering systems are:
So decide what your lawn needs and how much time and money you are willing to spend.
Another vital aspect of setting up your watering system is outlining your yard. Figure out the measurements of your yard and which places need how much water and so forth. This mapping out and knowing the dimensions and characteristics of your yard can be done on a piece of graph paper.
Next go shopping for the parts that you need, sprinklers, hoses, PVC pipe, and anything else that you may need. A couple good places to start are your local nurseries, garden centers, sprinkler stores, and home improvement stores.
Make sure as well, once you have finished shopping to take a good look at your system by laying it out before going to work. Then put it together, test it out, then set your timers.
There may be a lot of trial and error involved in putting your system together. You may find that you need to rearrange your original design to fit your yard, or even rethink the system you are using. Maintenance is also going to be a big factor in the future.
Remember that you may not get it perfectly on the first try, but there is no need to worry. There is plenty of time to think and set up your yard just how you want it, according to how you envision it, and seeing everything come together may be one of the greatest rewards of your time and effort.
