Yard Sprinkler System

Tips for Using a Yard Sprinkler System: Water Your Lawn Right!

Once an effective and reliable yard sprinkler system has been installed, then there are several tips home owners should follow when watering their lawns. First, if you live in an area where there are restrictions on when and how a lawn can be watered, then please follow those water conservation laws; states like Nevada, California and Florida have strict water conservation laws that need to be followed. On the other hand, if you live in a state where there are no water restriction laws, then lawns should be watered either very early in the morning or, as a second option, in the early evening.

Given the choice, water early in the day when lawns are normally wet with pre-dawn dew. It is best to avoid midday watering due to excessive evaporation and at night due to potential increased chances of some diseases gaining a foothold. The exception to this guide is when you are in extremely hot weather and nighttime temperatures don't go below 68 degrees. Then it is better to water in the late afternoon or early evening, provided the homeowners do not have any of the aforementioned watering-time restrictions. Early or late in the day reduces the amount of evaporation that takes place during the very hot day, allowing more water to reach the root zone.

The key to establishing a lush green lawn is daily maintenance: regular cutting and fertilizing. The green, most long lasting lawns are maintained over long period's time. By installing an effective and efficient yard sprinkler system, homeowners can dictate when and how their lawns get watered. Don't water the lawn if rains are expected soon; keep track of rainfall for the week. It is best not to apply more water to the lawn than what is absolutely necessary.
